PPC Mastery Tips For Newbie – Adwords, Overture, MSN adCenter, etc

How long would a $500 last for adwords campaign? 1 day? 2 days? 1 week?

I doesn't matter how much you spend on PPC. What matters is how well your PPC campaign converts. PPC is defined as Pay Per Click in case you are new to this term. What is PPC? PPC simply means you pay advertiser for every click you get. It could cost you from a penny to a few dollars per click, it all depends on the competition of the market you are targeting.

Newbies always made mistakes. The common mistakes they make are targeting a general niche, non buying market, wrong demographic. etc etc etc. For an example, targeting "Free Golf Tips". You will get a lots of clicks by targeting this keyword phrase. However, this is not a buying market. Most of the users click on to that link are not ready to buy. They are not willing to take out their credit card for your product yet.

How to laser target your potential buyer and doesn't burn a hole in your wallet? Take golf niche as an example. I would write an ad targeting these keywords, "How to perform perfect golf swing" ,"Perfect Golf Swing Tips" , demographic targeting, male 30-45 years old in the Unites States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Why? Because these are the buying market, they are willing to use their credit card for your product that you are going to sell them.

As you notice, I target "How to perform perfect golf swing" instead of "how to play golf". Why? Simple…  filter out competitors.
Golf niche consist of golf clubs, golf shoes, glove and many other golf accessories. It is too wide to target the golf word. "How to perform perfect golf swing" is laser targeting those who want to learn how to swing the golf club. Are there interested in golf shoe? NO. Golf clubs? NO… what they want is perform perfect golf swing. Give them what they want! :)

Summarize up, to have an effective PPC Campaign you must.

  • Target long tail keyword. – sports niche —> golf —-> golf swing.
  • Exclude non buying keyword — free, golf shoe, golf clubs,
  • Demographic targeted. — Age, sex, location…

Adwords is a really great tool for promoting your website, forum or affiliate link. the ppc cost of adwords is even cheaper than Friendster or Facebook. before, i used to advertise on facebook but the ROI is so low. Adwords gives me a much better ROI compared to Facebook ads.

Cameron, it really depends on how you create your ads. I have been promoting with Facebook for a few months. Surprisingly, I am having highly targeted traffic from FB which converts around 10% compared to Adwords which only convert for 3-5%. By the way, PPC cost from FB is fairly cheap which I consider them as free traffic.
